Marketing methodology and time management – A practical approach.
A day off: Extensive field marketing in streets of New Delhi.
Something comes out from clear mind about what I learnt in my early years. “Key to success is effective time management.” Sounds great!! Ever imagine how it is hard to implement in your day today life? And once you learnt your time management I bet you never say that you have lack of time.
In context to Indian local marketing culture, one thing is wasted like anything and that is time. There are excuses and explanations for everything, but the end result your sales performance goes down and you looses your incentives etc. Have a look at followings:
Case 1#. You have an appointment with someone but on that time the person is still busy because he had other urgent work which has high priority than yours. You need to wait for him to call or you never get an appointment again, means you are turning down a lead, which your present employer can’t afford.
Case #2. You have made a complete plan on how you are going to attend the calls today. Today may be your great day and you have many leads in your hand. You stuck into traffic and your valuable time wasted as well as you get an angry client too. The very same time you will have to listen that he was waiting for you to reach on time and now he is not free for another 2 weeks.
In both the cases above one thing you will find common. The sword is on your neck either you are in time or you are late. A probable customer cannot be wrong and you will be teaching all along that “Customer is Still the King”
Think of a solution in these scenarios:
Case1#. Instead of waiting long for that customer you can ask him politely that, Sir, if you are busy, I am ready to come again because your time is important, meanwhile please keep this proposal where I mentioned all the possible details. When you review this, please do give me a call and I will be here in no time.
Case # 2. The moment you feel you will be late due to an unavoidable circumstances, immediately inform the customer that you have stuck and no way you will reach in time. Do apologies and take an appointment of next day, don’t ever ask for extending the appointment for few more hours. Follow up with your next lead where you can reach in time.
What important is curtsey and attitude. Though marketing requires lots of time and efforts, it is necessary to pull a better output using you time effectively.
